Bright red tempura… Introducing Fuji Soba’s Red pickled ginger Tempura Soba

Today I went to Fuji Soba, a restaurant I often visit.
I have already written a blog about how I use Fuji Soba a while ago.
Please take a look if you like.

In my previous blog, I introduced Fuji Soba as a cheap, fast, and delicious buckwheat noodle restaurant,
I, Kimura, recommend the Katsu-don Soba set.
It is a set of sweet katsudon and salty soba, and I especially recommend it when you want to eat a full meal. I am a frequent eater compared to others, so volume is also important to me.

    Many people like Fuji Soba.
Even though I say soba, I can choose hot or cold, and I can also choose a combination with various toppings,
There are also rice bowls, which I like, so there are plenty of choices.
    Different people have different opinions.
Among them, I think many people recommend the Beni Ginger Ten Soba.
I also think it is delicious, of course.
Let me introduce this “Red pickled ginger Ten Soba”(紅生姜天そば) today.

Even if you have traveled to Japan many times, you may still have resistance to foods whose taste you cannot imagine.
There may be some foods that just do not suit your palate.
Because of its bright red appearance, you may imagine it to be an extremely spicy food.
This bright red food is actually red pickled ginger.

(I’m translating, so I’m afraid I’m not conveying it well.)

What is red pickled ginger anyway?

Red pickled ginger is an ingredient made by marinating ginger in red vinegar (ume vinegar).
Although it is bright red in color, it is not extremely spicy, and has a strong sour taste.

Research shows that it has a long history and has been eaten since the Edo period (1603-1867).
It seems to have been popular mainly in the Kansai region (Osaka and other areas).

What kind of food is red ginger used for?

Red pickled ginger is used as a topping for various dishes.
Just to name a few that come to mind immediately, there are takoyaki, ramen, beef bowl, okonomiyaki, and so on. It brings a change of flavor to many dishes.

You can also add a little spiciness to this by sprinkling some shichimi on it.
It goes great with the salty broth of Fuji soba.
Now you are just like the locals!

Today, from a slightly geeky point of view, I introduced Fuji Soba’s ginger tempura, a very local dish in Tokyo. The reason why I wrote this blog is because I heard that they are going to release this red pickled ginger tempura soba cup noodle soon. I heard about it from a friend. I introduced it because I thought that even people who enjoy Japan and have come to visit me in Tokyo many times would indeed not know about Red pickled ginger Tempura Soba!

By the way, I saw a news report that when Lady Gaga came to Japan a long time ago, she liked the standing soba noodles at Shinagawa Station. It was news that she liked it so much that she often ate there when she came to Japan. Maybe the potential for local food in Japan is high.

Thank you for reading my blog to the end.
