The cherry blossoms at Asukayama are at their best now!

This is Kimura from the northern part of Tokyo.
This year, the temperature has not risen very high, and when it does, it rains again,
The weather has been quite difficult for the cherry blossoms, but this weekend was sunny.
The temperature has risen, the cherry blossoms are in bloom, and the cherry blossom-viewing crowds are in full swing.
Today, I would like to introduce the local situation in the northern part of Tokyo!

Access to Asukayama is also described in our previous blog!
    Please refer to it!

Cherry blossoms in Asukayama are in full bloom now!

Unfortunately, it was cloudy when I visited Asukayama Park and the picture is not good, but they are in bloom!

    Probably peaked this week.

There are many people enjoying cherry blossom viewing!

I was taking pictures in a place where there were as few people as possible, but in fact there were many groups of people enjoying “hanami” with sheets laid out.
There were actually many groups of people enjoying “hanami” with sheets laid out.
The sheets were more colorful than the cherry blossoms.
Hanami” is to enjoy drinks and food while sitting on the ground and looking at the cherry blossoms.
Various groups of students, companies, clubs of some kind, etc. will be having a party here later on!
    Everyone, please drink in moderation.

Hanami in Asukayama Park has a long history,
It is said that cherry trees were planted at the behest of Tokugawa Yoshimune, the shogun of the Edo period.
It is said that around 1720, more than 1,270 cherry trees were planted and the park was opened to the public as a place where common people could enjoy cherry blossoms. The trees have been replaced since that time, as the life span of a cherry tree is said to be 60 to 70 years, but the enjoyment of cherry blossoms continues to this day.

If you would like to know more about this history, you should visit the website of the museum located on the park grounds. You should be able to find documents and other information from that time.

There are other cherry blossom viewing spots around Asukayama

There is a river flowing by Asukayama. It is called Shakujii River and runs through the northern part of Tokyo. There are also cherry blossoms along the river here.

I hope the weather will be fine next year!
