Hidden Special Menu: We Recommend the Tuna Tataki Bowl with Extra-Large Serving at Sukiya
Today, I was in Shinjuku and feeling hungry, so I decided to pop into Sukiya.
Let me introduce you to Sukiya’s hidden special menu item: the Tuna Tataki Bowl with extra tuna.
Ordering Sukiya’s Tuna Tataki Bowl? Go for the Extra Serving!

“Tataki” refers to tuna that’s been mashed into a paste, a version of tuna you might recognize from popular sushi rolls like “Negitoro Maki.” My recommendation? Order the extra-large portion! At Sukiya, you can choose the bowl size when you order, including options like regular, large, and extra-large.
Why Go for the Extra Serving?
When you order the extra-large, you get double the amount of tuna! Just like the photo above shows, this means you get two generous scoops of delicious negitoro. It’s fantastic.
To enjoy it, you’ll find soy sauce on the table. Pour some into a small dish on your right, and if you like, add wasabi . I love wasabi, so I always add a generous amount.

Then, drizzle it over the tuna tataki and enjoy with a spoon.

I first tried this about 20 years ago, and it’s still on the menu today, likely because it’s one of Sukiya’s hidden favorites.
The price? It’s around 1,050 yen with a side of miso soup, making it one of the slightly more premium offerings at Sukiya.
If you’re traveling in Tokyo, don’t hesitate to try it if you spot a Sukiya!
