Peyoung Now Has a Chilled Version! Exploring Japan’s Favorite Instant Yakisoba

March Brings Warmer Weather and the Tokyo Marathon Excitement

As March begins and the weather warms up, Tokyo is abuzz with excitement over today’s Tokyo Marathon. While the northern part of Tokyo where I live remains unaffected, central areas have road restrictions in place.

Today, I’m excited to introduce a new discovery from the supermarket—chilled Peyoung yakisoba!

Previously, I introduced Nissin’s UFO on this blog, but I was surprised to find that Peyoung, one of Japan’s two biggest instant yakisoba brands, also has a chilled version. Let’s give it a try!

Peyoung vs. UFO – Which One Do You Prefer?

Instant yakisoba has been a staple in Japan for decades. Many students have fond memories of eating it when they were hungry after school. It’s the kind of food that brings back nostalgic feelings.

When it comes to instant yakisoba, two brands dominate the conversation: Peyoung and UFO. Debates over which one is better are a common topic among friends, even as adults.

Inside the package, you’ll find noodles and sauce. Unlike the instant version, which includes dried toppings and spice packets, this chilled version keeps it simple.

The instructions suggest adding onions or cabbage for extra flavor, so I grabbed some cabbage from my fridge and gave it a try.

    Cooking Steps

    • Heat oil in a pan and stir-fry vegetables.
    • Add the noodles, pour in 30cc of water, and loosen them up.
    • Reduce the heat and mix in the sauce.

Taste Test: Is Chilled Peyoung Any Good?

At first glance, it looks like regular yakisoba. But how does it taste?

Compared to instant Peyoung, the flavor is noticeably milder. The aroma while cooking was promising, but the final taste didn’t quite match my expectations.

If you crave Peyoung, it’s usually for that bold, rich flavor. This chilled version felt a bit too mild, making me wonder—wouldn’t any other yakisoba brand work just as well?

That said, it’s not a bad product—just not what I was expecting!

Conclusion: The Joy of Instant Yakisoba

he beauty of instant yakisoba lies in its intensely rich sauce flavor. If you ever visit Japan, I highly recommend trying Peyoung or UFO from a convenience store or supermarket!
