Shinjuku Gyoen Cherry Blossoms – A Must-See Spring Spot in Tokyo
Hi, I’m Kimura, a Tokyo resident who loves exploring the city. One of my favorite places in Shinjuku is Shinjuku Gyoen, a beautiful and spacious garden in the heart of Tokyo. Unlike other gardens, Shinjuku Gyoen combines Japanese, English, and French-style landscapes, creating a unique and picturesque atmosphere.
When cherry blossoms bloom, this place transforms into a breathtaking pink paradise. Let’s take a look at the current situation and the best time to visit!
Shinjuku Gyoen Cherry Blossom Update

I visited Shinjuku Gyoen last week and took some photos. Many trees were still bare, showing no signs of cherry blossoms yet. However, tourists were already gathering, eager for the sakura season!

Shinjuku Gyoen has multiple entrances, but no matter which gate you enter from, the trees remain leafless for now.
So, when is the best time to visit for cherry blossoms?

Hidden Gem: Koishikawa Botanical Garden
If you want a peaceful and less crowded place to enjoy nature, I highly recommend Koishikawa Botanical Garden in Bunkyo City.
🌳 Japan’s Oldest Botanical Garden – Opened in 1877, originally a medicinal plant garden since 1684.
🍏 Newton’s Apple Tree – Yes, you can see a tree grown from the legendary Newton’s apple tree!

This beautiful, historic garden is managed by the University of Tokyo and is open to the public. If you appreciate nature, it’s a must-visit spot in Tokyo!
The Beauty of Cherry Blossoms is Fleeting
Cherry blossoms are breathtaking, but they only last about a week after reaching full bloom. They are fragile and can fall quickly due to rain or strong winds.
Because of this, forecasts may change, and seeing them at their peak is a rare once-in-a-lifetime experience. If you’re lucky enough to witness the full bloom during your visit, cherish every moment!
