Cherry blossoms in Asukayama Park have not yet bloomed March 25, 2024
This is Kimura from northern Tokyo.
Many people who travel around Tokyo come to see cherry blossoms.
There are various famous cherry blossom viewing spots in Tokyo.
Some are famous places like Ueno Park, Meguro River, and Chidorigafuchi.
There is also a famous cherry blossom viewing spot in the northern part of Tokyo called Asukayama Park.
Cherry blossoms are short-lived, lasting only about a week from the time their beautiful flowers bloom until they are in full bloom.
Since it is affected by weather conditions such as temperatures of the year, it is also a matter of luck whether you can see cherry blossoms in full bloom.
Here are some local conditions.
We have also introduced Asukayama in our past blogs. We also introduce how to get to Asukayama, so please take a look here if you like.
A small mountain in Tokyo. Asukayama
Asukayama is a small mountain about 25 meters high located in Kita-ku, Tokyo. The park was first developed in the Edo period (1603-1867). It was established by the shogun of the Edo Shogunate at that time and is still a place of recreation and relaxation for local residents.
It is said that there are about 600 cherry trees in Asukayama.
Asukayama Park is a free admission park, and is crowded with visitors who enjoy “Hanami” (cherry blossom viewing) during the cherry blossom season.
Cherry blossom situation now
Usually the cherry blossoms are at their best in late March, but this year they are still in bud.
In Japan, there is a cherry blossom forecast.
This is the forecast that was given.
It will change depending on the weather in the future, but I think this is a good reference.
Please take a look at our blog on cherry blossom forecast introduced last year!
According to the weather forecast at this time, the next weekend will bring high temperatures above 20°C (68°F), so it will finally be blooming and spring will be here. If you are traveling in Tokyo at this time of year, please keep an eye out for the cherry blossoms!
